The coin's reverse depicts the curve of an athletics stadium, complete with tracks and cheering crowds.
The obverse features key elements of the sport, such as a beam, the legs of a gymnast and a gymnastic ribbon.
In Finland, gymnastics is practised at both recreational and competitive levels. Finland has achieved a total of 25 Olympic medals in the sport: 8 gold, 5 silver and 12 bronze. The most recent medal was the silver won by Olli Laiho in 1968. The most recent international medals won by Finnish gymnasts are the horizontal bar world championship of Jani Tanskanen from 1997, the horizontal bar silver medal of Jari Mönkkönen from the European Championships of 1998 and Tomi Tuuha’s European championship in vault in 2010.
