The obverse of the coin depicts part of a ski jumper taking off from the table of the inrun.
Ski jumping as a sport saw its beginnings in early 19th century Telemark, Norway. The first ski jumping competition in Finland was held in 1885 for the students of Sortavala seminary, while the first permanent inrun was built in the district of Alppila in Helsinki in 1906.
