More info

The aim of the coin entitled "One coin against hunger", issued in 2010, is to continue the series of collector coins launched in 2008 under the title "One coin, one reason ".The objective of this initiative is to form an alliance between numismatics and the struggle for giving and sharing, and to help the Banco Alimentar contra a Fome (The Food Bank Against Hunger).
One Euro will be donated to this Food Bank for every FDC version of this coin that is sold. This Euro will be used to buy milk, which will be distributed to people suffering from malnutrition.
The coin was created by sculpture artist João Duarte, and represents the ethical values of giving and sharing. The two hands represent human beings or Mankind, and the two pieces of bread stand for Food. Several hands with food are arranged in a circle, facing inwards towards the centre of the coin, to represent the dynamic of giving and to symbolize an enormous chain of solidarity. The hands decrease in size as they follow the path towards the centre of the coin, until they enter the Bank.
