Learn more about the queens...

Eleanor of Portugal (1434 - 1467) was Empress of the Holy Roman Empire. A Portuguese infanta (princess), daughter of King Edward of Portugal and his wife Eleanor of Aragon, she was the consort of Holy Roman Emperor Frederick III and the mother of Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I. From the link between the Avis and Habsburg Dynasties, five children were born. She was the last Empress of the Holy Roman Empire to be crowned in Rome by the Supreme Pontiff.

Isabella of Portugal (1503 - 1539) was Holy Roman Empress and Queen of Spain, Germany, Italy, Naples and Sicily and Duchess of Burgundy by her marriage to Emperor Charles V. Married to Charles V from 1526 to her death in 1539, she was Queen regent of Spain during the absences of her husband during 1529-1533, 1535-1536 and 1538-1539. A woman of great beauty and intelligence, Isabella was undoubtedly the Spanish soul of Charles V.

Catherine of Braganza (1638 - 1705) was the wife of King Charles II and Queen Consort of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 1662 until 1685. She was the daughter of King John IV, first king of the House of Braganza in Portugal, and his wife Luisa de Gusmão. Catherine was not a popular queen in England because she was Catholic, which prevented her from being crowned. Without posterity, she left England with the orange jam, the tea-drinking habit, and introduced the use of cutlery and tobacco.

Barbara of Braganza (1711 - 1758) was the wife of King Fernando VI and Queen Consort of Spain from 1746 until her death. She was the daughter of King John V of Portugal and his wife the archduchess Maria Ana of Austria. Her marriage was part of an agreement consisting of a double marriage between the sons of King John V and the sons of Philip V of Spain, designed to improve relations between the two Iberian crowns after the War of Spanish Succession. The double marriage of the Portuguese Crown Prince and Princess to the Spanish counterparts has gone down in history as the "Princess Exchange".
