Forming part of the European Series, that elected European Composers as the theme for 2014, the Portuguese coin pays homage to Marcos Portugal (1762-1830), one of the most prolific Portuguese composers ever.
This coin, created by sculptor Paula Lourenço, shows on its obverse the portrait of Marcos Portugal and on its reverse a lyre surrounded by laurel branches, symbolizing the greatness of his musical works.
