More info

Nuno Tristão was a fifteenth-century Portuguese navigator, slave explorer and merchant, active on the Atlantic coast of West Africa in the 1440s. Traditionally it was thought that he had been the first European to have reach the territory of present-day Guinea Bissau, beginning a relationship, first slave, then commercial and finally colonial, between the Portuguese and the people of that region that would last until 1974.
