Isaac II Angelo was a Byzantine emperor from 1185 to 1195 and again from 1203 to 1204.
His father Andronicus Angelo was the son of Constantine Angelo and Theodora Comnena Angelina, the youngest daughter of Emperor Alexios I Comneno and Irene Ducas. Isaac was therefore a member of the imperial family.
The coin shows the Virgin nimbate, seated facing, holding before her the nimbate head of infant Christ facing left .
On the reverse, Isaac, standing facing on the left, crowned, wearing divitision, loros and sagion and holding cross-headed sceptre and akakia, crowned by hand of God in upper right field.
