The coin featuring Eleanor of Portugal (1434-1467), Holy Roman-Germanic Empress due to her marriage to Frederick III of the House of Hapsburg, is the first in a new series of coins entitled "Queens of Europe", which aims to portray Portuguese Princesses who reigned over Europe.
Designed by Isabel Carriço and Fernando Branco, the obverse of the coin shows the coat of arms of the Empress, surrounded by two roses. On the reverse can be seen a figure of Eleanor inspired by her statue in Neustadt, at the Cister monastery.
