Scientiae Thesaurus Mirabilis is the name of the document signed by King D. Dinis, in 1290, and recognized by Pope Nicholas IV that same year, which created the General Studies and gave rise to the University of Coimbra, responsible, over time, for the formation of national elites and the evolution and consolidation of scientific culture in Portugal, Europe and the world.
To mark this important historical landmark, the Casa da Moeda minted a coin by the sculptor José João de Brito.
