More info

The training ship Sagres was constructed in 1937 and has been serving the Navy since 1962, crossing the high seas on countless voyages to instruct cadets from the Naval College and representing the Navy and the Country all over the world.
As part of celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of the launch of the training ship Sagres, along with its 50 years of service to the Portuguese Navy, the Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda is marking the occasion with a commemorative collector coin created by sculpture artist Baiba Sime.
The obverse of the coin bears a representation of the prow of the training ship Sagres, featuring the effigy of Henry the Navigator. On the reverse of the coin is displayed its face value, the Portuguese coat of arms and the Cross of Christ, which is the ex-libris of the vessel.
