In order to celebrate the success of the Erasmus Programme, the European Commission has decided to jointly mint a commemorative coin. This is a rare event, as before this occasion there were only four issues common to all Euro countries.
Reflecting the democratic spirit of the European Union, the design of this commemorative coin - by Joaquin Jiménez - was chosen by popular vote online in 2021.
The coin depicts in the middle, the portrait of Erasmus of Rotterdam writing; Above the portrait’s right hand, the author’s initials; ; On the right, the words ‘1987-2022’, ‘Erasmus Programme’ and ‘LIETUVA’; Surrounding the design, the 12 stars of the European Union forming a circle.
